PC-TCS
Network Interface

A network interface is now available for use by instrument and PI data analysis computers that wish to retrieve telescope status and send commands to Steward Observatory telescopes running PC-TCS.  For security reasons the interface will be restricted to use by IP addresses local to the networks associated with each telescope.

The interface is based on simple ASCII commands sent using standard TCP/IP network protocol.   Communications are established by connecting to port 5750 from one of the legal IP's.    All commands and their associated replies are carried via this single port.

In compliance with the new network communications protocol being developed by Ken Ramey (CSG) for the LBT,  the packet structure for queries and commands is as follows.

Network Interface Packet Structure

All fields in the packet are ASCII and white space delimited.  In addition all fields should be uppercase.  Using this packet structure - two types of directives are available - REQUESTS and COMMANDS.  Table 1B describes the network syntax for REQUESTS of information from TCS.
